Our Deacons

At Spotswood, the deacon body is called to serve the church.

One of our primary responsibilities is to meet the needs of the widows and widowers of our church. We host an annual Christmas banquet where we invite and escort the widows and widowers of Spotswood to an evening of entertainment and dinning. 

The deacons have recently begun a new ministry. Each widow and widower that chooses to participate is assigned a deacon whose responsibility is to minister to them on a regular basis for various needs.

Praying for our pastor, staff, church and those with special needs is also an important part of our ministry. We meet monthly to discuss various ministry needs and upcoming events. The meetings begin with a time of sharing and then praying. To help meet the needs in the church we have a compassion committee that deals with immediate and ongoing needs as they arise.

The deacons also prepare and serve the Lord's Supper monthly.

We have over 50 active deacons with many others on reserve status. However, once a man is called to serve as a deacon, he is still a deacon, even if he is on reserve.
