Our giving service is provided by e-giving.org. They have annual audits through Trustwave to verify their compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS). This verifies that e-giving.org has their servers secured keeping all of your information confidential and secured against malicious attacks. You are redirected from Spotswood's website to a secure connection at e-giving.org to prevent prying eyes from seeing your information traveling across the internet. No bank account information you provide is stored at the church.
Currently credit cards are not accepted for regular giving. The church wants to be sensitive to the debt problem our nation is facing. You will be asked to provide a savings or checking account in order to give online. In addition to this, the fee structure for giving with credit cards is percentage based. That equates to more of your giving not going to the church's mission. So even if you get rewards points from a credit card transaction, that benefit is less than the charge incurred for the credit card transaction. We want to be good stewards with His resources.
Unlike credit card transactions, your bank account is something you want to protect. A few more questions are asked to setup your transaction. Once this is done, giving is easy in the future. This is for your protection. You will also be able to setup giving on regular intervals, see a history of your giving, and modify any settings as needed.
Online giving does take a few days to verify funds and actually transfer the money to the church. You will get an email confirmation of your transaction when it is complete. Even if your confirmation is received in the next calendar year, if you submitted the payment in the previous year it will show up on that previous year's giving statement for tax purposes.
