Adult Bible Fellowships
What Are Adult Bible Fellowships?
Adult Bible Fellowship stands for three things:
- It's for ADULTS
- The main curriculum is the BIBLE
- They encourage FELLOWSHIP
Adult Bible Fellowships (ABF) are the most effective places for people to connect. They are personal, relational, and fun. They are places to make friends, establish lifelong relations and grow together spiritually. Each ABF class is essentially a "church within a church" through which we build community within the congregation as a whole. ABFs allow Spotswood to grow larger and smaller at the same time. Sunday morning meetings include casual fellowship around coffee and snacks, group announcements, prayer and care time, and usually lot’s of laughter! Interactive Bible study is a core element at ABF meetings. Groups will also do periodic social activities and service projects. You do not have to be a member of Spotswood to join an ABF. As you consider which ABF to visit, understand that these communities are organized by age making it easier for you to find friends of a similar age and stage of life.
Five Unique Characteristics of Adult Bible Fellowship Groups:
- ABF groups are the way we assimilate and disciple adults within our church.
- ABF groups are not classes but rather communities. A place where you can connect with other believers and join with them in being on-mission with God in the world.
- ABF groups utilize a team approach to ministry, as opposed to an individual teacher keeping a group going. This allows for more people to be involved in the work of the group.
- ABF groups provide opportunities for further discipleship through the growth groups that are formed from within the ABF.
- ABF groups use curricula to guide the study, but the true curriculum for each ABF is the Bible.
Five Goals of Our Adult Bible Fellowship Groups:
- Transformation – the focus of the teaching is not information but transformation. Our goal is changed lives!
- Connection - we need to develop real relationships with one another.
- Caring - we need to act out those relationships with care, support and love.
- Multiplication - we need to multiply those relationships through the birthing of additional ABFs.
- Ministry - we need to strengthen our relationship with God's church by involving ourselves in a ministry within the church and out in the community.
